High Water Events on the North Branch

As I count them, we have had three high water events in early January and May. The River drains quickly, however in January with temps around zero for a few days’ high water freezes both on the shore and on the BOTTOM of the RIVER (Anchor Ice). This year’s high water freeze up was quite the phenomena, with ice covering entire islands and my dock. Anchor ice formed rapids and waterfalls in normally flat, shallow, slow water. In case you missed it, I have included some of my photos and some photos and a short video by Neil Wallace. It's amazing how different our river is depending on the season!
